Vignerons Race Day brought together horse racing and the Langhorne Creek wine region on Sunday for a unique celebration that embodies the vibrant spirit of the Adelaide Hills community. The day went from heavy rain forecast into a lovely warm day at 23 degrees, with a huge crowd coming for a fabulous day of racing, food, wine, and great family entertainment. With a pop-up cellar door from Bleasdale, Bremerton, Lake Breeze and Gipsie Jack from The WineHouse, patrons couldn’t be more spoilt for choice. Food vans on site complemented the wine, along with fantastic music from regular favourite at the track, The White Keys. The kids were not forgotten, with Fairy Belle on site with crafts and face painting, along with Darcy’s Travelling Farm and a giant sandpit to keep the kids busy while mum and dad tasted some great wines.
A number of dignitaries and VIPs arrived to enjoy the Vignerons Race Day with the community, namely Shadow Minister for Racing Tim Whetstone, Member for Hammond Adrian Pederick, Alexandrina Mayor Keith Parkes, incoming Alexandrina Council CEO Andrew MacDonald, Regional Development Australia CEO Stephen Shotton, Langhorne Creek Grape and Wine Executive Officer Lian Jaensch, Racing SA Chairman Rob Rorrison, and SA Racing Operation Manager Nick Bawden.
The Langhorne Creek Wine Region Vignerons Cup at BM72 Handicap was won by local trainer David Jolly with his six-year-old gelding Limited Risk, who was superbly ridden by Rochelle Milnes. She had to fight out a strong finish from second-placed Metrical, ridden by Kayla Crowther. The connections of Limited Risk were extremely happy to win the famous solid silver Vignerons Cup.
